I am a first-generation American, the daughter of hard-working immigrants who played by the rules and made their way in America through talent and hard work. I understand the problems facing working families in a country where hard work and talent are no longer enough to secure a piece of the American Dream. I attended public schools, and I know how vital our schools are in nurturing the talents of all of our children. I was a small businesswoman for 13 years, and I know what it's like to have to meet a payroll and grow something with my own hands.
